Will begin to knit the Uptown Scarf. Will learn how to cast on and cast off.

PART 2: Tuesday, September 30 from 6:00-7:30 pm
Finish knitting the Uptown Scarf. Will learn to apply fringe.

Materials participants need to bring:
1 Skein worsted weight yarn
2 Skeins of super bulky yarn (approx. 45 yards each)
One set of straight US 35 needles
One straight US size 8 needle [available online only]
One crochet hook size S [available online only]

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE

Thursday, August 28 from 1:00 – 6:00 pm in the Youth Programming Room.  The need for blood is constant. Every day, patients in our communities are helped by donors who give at blood drives by generous volunteers. To schedule an appointment, visit http://www.redcrossblood.org and select Glen Carbon Library as the location.

 

SPEECHCRAFT  INSTRUCTED BY TOASTMASTER CLARK WELLS

Thursdays, September 11. 18 & 25 and October 9, 16 & 23 from 6:15-7:45 pm in the Community Room. It is required to attend all six workshops. Speechcraft gives participants an edge in public speaking by providing the opportunity and the tools to develop and hone communication skills in a supportive environment. These interactive fun sessions will put power in your presentations. The program covers:

• Speech topics for thinking creatively

• Impromptu speaking for responding on the spot

• The value of time – getting your message across

• Speaking to an objective – speaking with clarity

• Running effective and productive meetings- time efficiency

• The art of constructive feedback

Workbooks will be provided by Toastmasters International. A certificate of completion will be given at the last workshop. Sign up today, as space is limited to 12 participants.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY  INSTRUCTED BY NADINE VERDERBER

Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 from 12:30-4:30 pm in the Community Room. By taking this two part driver safety course seniors will learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate their vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. Seniors will learn how to manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Cost: $15  AARP member or $20  non-AARP member. Payment is to be made to the Instructor at the beginning of the workshop. Participants will be given a certificate entitling them to a 3 year discount on their preferred car insurance. Sign up today, as space is limited to 15 participants.

CREEPY CUPCAKES  INSTRUCTED BY JANYNNE STAHL

Tuesday, October 28 from 6:30-7:45 pm in the Community Room. This hands-on workshop will teach participants how to decorate their four creepy cupcake each in a different design. Participants will take home their icing decorating supplies along with their four decorated cupcakes. There is a supply fee of $10 (cash only) and is due by October 1 to secure your participation. Register is limited to 8 participants.
