Forest Park Owls: Hunting & Feeding

Presented by Mark H.X. Glenshaw

Mark is an award-winning naturalist who has closely observed and documented the lives of Great Horned Owls in Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri since December 2005.  Mark has learned many of the owls’ hunting perches and observed and documented many predatory attempts as well as seen the owls feed themselves and their many owlets. His talk, “Forest Park Owls: Hunting and Feeding“, will cover these hunting and feeding behaviors with photos and videos to illustrate them.

Oct 10 @ 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Have you ever wanted to view the night sky through a telescope? And even better, learn to operate the telescope yourself? If so, you don’t want to miss this opportunity for a FREE training and telescope viewing session provided by amateur astronomers from the Riverbend Astronomy Club.

The evening program will begin inside with hands on training focused on teaching you and your family how to operate and use the library telescopes now available in your public library. Guests will learn how to unpack the telescope, get the telescope ready for operation, find objects in the night sky and about telescope safety issues. Using the telescope is surprisingly easy and fun for the whole family.

Weather permitting, the class will adjourn outside and apply what they have learned to find objects in the night sky. Don’t plan to go home early because you will not want to leave once you get started.
